Valentine Delivery and Serenade is A Helping Hand’s (AHH) signature event. Beginning in 2001, AHH staff decided to surprise 63 clients with hand-crafted valentines and a single red rose to remind them of how much they were loved and appreciated. The event has grown each year since then, and in 2011 nearly 3,700 older adults and individuals with disabilities received more than 4,600 hand-crafted cards.

AHH will celebrate its 11th annual Valentine Delivery and Serenade event in February 2012. We invite you to volunteer to be a part of this heartwarming event that brings smiles to seniors and disabled adults. Both group and individual volunteer opportunities are available and include:

Cardmaking

Make crafty creations that will bring joy to a homebound individual or someone who may recently have lost their sweetheart. Bring supplies to work and enlist the help of your coworkers during a lunch break or ask the youth group at your church to pledge to make a certain number.

Valentines must be dropped off at our office by at least one week prior to the even in order for them to be packaged in time for deliveries.

Delivering Valentines

Surprise seniors and disabled adults with a song, rose and packet of cards. Go with a group of friends or as a family for a rewarding volunteer experience. If you are a member of an a capella group or choir, please let us know and we’ll look for opportunities for your group to volunteer together. Other Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are also needed to sort and package valentines in advance of the event, provide directional assistance to those making deliveries and support with event logistics at the kick-off celebration, which will take place at Carol Woods Retirement Community in Chapel Hill.

Valentine Sponsorships

Additionally, we welcome individual and corporate sponsorships for our Valentine Delivery and Serenade. Donations for our event will feed volunteers who dedicate their Saturday to making deliveries in the community or will offset the cost of purchasing a long-stemmed rose for each of our recipients. All donations are tax-deductible, and the names of individuals and businesses that make contributions will be recognized at the event.
