Volunteer
A Helping Hand has a team of volunteers who supplement the services provided by the paid companions. Volunteers may provide a tired family caregiver with 2-3 hours of weekly respite. Volunteers who wish to participate as a group may volunteer to help an elderly person with yard work. Other opportunities include honoring clients on birthdays, participating in our annual “Valentine Delivery and Serenade” or interviewing Veterans for the national Veterans’ History Project.

Here’s what some of our volunteers have said about volunteering with A Helping Hand:
My experience volunteering with A Helping Hand and specifically Mrs. M for
the last nine years has helped me form a lasting relationship with her and
her family. She and her family are like an extended family to me. I’m so
glad that A Helping Hand exists to help senior citizens and people with
disabilities who sometimes need extra care to stay in their homes and live
independently. – Michael L.
Developing a relationship with the client I visit has been a tremendous
blessing. … Taking time out of my schedule to help someone else is a great way to put life’s ups and downs into perspective. Being able to do things that seem easy to me but I know are very meaningful for the client is an amazing feeling. - Laura D.
