About Us
A Helping Hand was established as a nonprofit in Chapel Hill, NC in 1995 to provide support services to older adults, filling an unmet need by providing access healthcare. The organization also serves younger adults who have a temporary or ongoing need due to an accident, illness, injury or disability. It is not part of a franchise or national corporation. Any adult 65 years of age or older is eligible to receive services, and assistance is provided to people of all income levels seven days a week/24 hours a day. Assistance includes companionship, transportation and in-home assistance.
A Helping Hand is committed to helping older adults access health care, increase home independence and enjoy the highest quality of life. We also educate future healthcare providers through a recognized service learning program. Please see our Services and our Service Learning Internship pages for more information.
We assist clients in Orange, Durham, Chatham and western Wake counties. Transportation is provided across county and state lines.
A Helping Hand is fully insured and bonded and all companions are thoroughly screened and trained.
